In the summer of 2388 events, which had been building for many months, suddenly came to a head. The alliance which the Amroni Union, Valon Empire, and Earth Federation had formed two years earlier has brought all three considerable wealth. As a result the Amroni Union and Earth Federation suddenly became major powers in the sector, upsetting the balance of the entire region.
To make matters worse piracy in the region has grown dramatically, especially the Drax. Attacks have grown in such frequency and viciousness that every star nation is struggling to increase their anti-piracy patrols and convoy escorts; an effort that some can little afford.
Complains have rained down upon the Amroni and Federation from ever major power, including the Valkyr, L'lanadu, Garrabarra, and the Trade League. Even the Valon have become dissatisfied with the current arrangements and have prodded the ancient and reclusive Szar to become involved.
If these disputes cannot be resolved then the Federation may be forced to withdraw from the region altogether or face open war. So, the Amroni Union and Earth Federation have had little choice but to host an emergency summit meeting. The NEC base has been chosen as the most neutral site available and the staff has been urgently preparing hitherto unused portions of the facility to accommodate the influx of VIPs. The stability of the region and the fate of the NEC hang on the success of this summit.
